The Timken Company has expanded its line of sealed spherical lower swing bearings, offering mine operators improved machine availability on many of the most common dragline and shovel models.

Timken® sealed lower swing bearings feature industry-leading technologies to enhance sealing capabilities, simplify installation and reduce both direct and indirect maintenance costs.

The newest design replaces cumbersome bolts and retainer plates requiring multiple torque adjustments with a pre-sealed, pre-greased bearing that utilizes a locknut arrangement, cutting the number of installation steps in half. With integrated seals to keep lubrication in and debris out, this package bearing is designed to require no additional lubrication after installation. Timken sealed spherical lower swing bearing designs also feature modification-free interchanges. Working closely with original equipment manufacturers and mine operators, these bearings have been developed to help maximize machine availability and performance.

“Timken demonstrated technical and application expertise in the redesigned solution for one of my clients,” said dragline and shovel consultant Kelvin Kennedy. “Not only has the application improved installation and operations, but the relationship with Timken has led to better and more consistent handling and assembly techniques. Their ability to improve bearing life, reduce maintenance and lubrication costs and prolong the operations of the dragline has made me a long- term Timken customer.”
